The maid throws herself into her acting challenge with determination, trying her best to become the perfect victim. The photographer is almost placid by comparison to the authoritarian figure of the policeman, who spends most of his dialogue in the film commanding women to follow his instructions. But i must criticise that a lot of hand held work was extremely shaky, in some places it was almost too shaky, and how this then contrasts to the very level and more classical Lanthimos' style is rather jarring in places, and a fault in the editing, quite a deep one at that measure. When he first read The Favourite , Lanthimos says in impeccable English, he knew nothing about the times it depicted. In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods. Does this alliance lead somewhere? There was barely any dialogue, except when one character barked detailed directions at the others.
